Blue Energy Care Plans are annual plans that put our team in charge of watching your system, so faults and underperformance are picked up early rather than when an unexpectedly high bill arrives. Basic ($199 a year) includes remote system monitoring, an annual performance report and a tariff review. Plus ($349 a year) includes monitoring, performance analysis, priority support and a scheduled inspection. Premium ($599 a year) includes solar, battery and EV monitoring, optimisation, an annual on-site inspection and a tariff and VPP review. Prices are indicative and confirmed after we assess your system.
Why ongoing monitoring catches faults early
Many solar faults are silent. Panels make no noise when output drops, and the house keeps running from the grid, so a problem can cost months of production before anyone notices. Issues that monitoring can reveal include:
- an inverter that tripped off after a grid disturbance and did not restart;
- one string of panels producing nothing because of a failed connector or isolator;
- a gradual shortfall against expected output, pointing to new shading, soiling or a failing component;
- monitoring that stopped reporting after a router or home network change;
- a battery left in the wrong operating mode, or holding more backup reserve than it needs;
- an EV charger drawing from the grid when it was meant to use surplus solar.
It is natural to check a monitoring app often in the first months after installation and far less as time goes on. A care plan means someone keeps comparing your system's performance with what it should produce, and follows up when it does not.
What each plan includes
| Plan | Indicative price | What it includes | Typically suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $199 a year | Remote system monitoring, annual performance report, tariff review | Solar-only homes with a system that is performing well |
| Plus | $349 a year | Monitoring, performance analysis, priority support, scheduled inspection | Owners who want an inspection on the calendar and faster help |
| Premium | $599 a year | Solar, battery and EV monitoring, optimisation, annual on-site inspection, tariff and VPP review | Homes with a battery, an EV charger or both |
Full plan terms, including inspection timing, are confirmed when you join. All three plans are listed on our energy market.
Who each plan suits
Basic suits owners of a solar-only system who mainly want reassurance that someone will notice if it stops. The annual performance report shows how the year compared with expectations. The tariff review checks whether your electricity plan still suits a solar home, which matters because feed-in tariffs in NSW have fallen to a few cents per kWh while grid electricity commonly costs 30-45 c/kWh.
Plus suits owners who want more attention: systems that are several years old, arrays that are hard to see from the ground, or households that simply prefer a scheduled inspection and priority when something goes wrong. An inspection can find things monitoring cannot see, such as damaged cabling, loose conduit, nesting birds under the array or weathered isolator enclosures.
Premium suits homes where there is more to manage and more to gain. A battery's value depends heavily on its settings: operating mode, backup reserve, tariff windows and, if it joins a virtual power plant, how much control the operator has. An EV charger adds another set of priorities. The VPP review is particularly relevant in NSW, where from 1 July 2026 a one-off incentive of up to $1,000 is available for connecting an existing battery to a VPP. Confirm the current details on the official NSW Government page before enrolling.
What the reports and reviews tell you
A useful performance report does more than repeat the numbers in your app. It puts the year in context:
- Production against expectation. Output is compared with what a system of your size, orientation and shading should produce, allowing for the weather that year.
- Seasonal shape. Winter production is naturally lower, so a quiet July is not a fault, while a weak summer month may be.
- Long-term trend. Panels commonly lose around 0.4-0.55% of output a year. A decline much faster than that is worth investigating.
- Recommendations. Clear next steps, such as cleaning, trimming new shade, a settings change or an on-site check.
The tariff review looks at how your plan's supply charge, usage rates, time-of-use windows and feed-in rate fit the way your home actually uses and exports power, so you can raise a better-suited offer with your retailer.
What a care plan does not replace
- Manufacturer warranties: equipment defects are still claimed under the product warranty, and monitoring data helps support a claim.
- Repairs and parts: finding a fault is different from fixing it. Repair work and replacement parts are quoted separately unless your plan terms say otherwise.
- Panel cleaning: professional cleaning is a separate service, with a published indicative range of $150-$300.
- Your safety: never climb onto the roof or open an inverter, battery or switchboard to investigate a fault. Contact us so a licensed electrician or accredited installer can attend.
Care plan or one-off service?
If you only want a single check, a one-off service may suit you better. On our market, a fixed-price on-site solar system check with a written report is $249 for a residential system up to 10 kW, a Battery Optimisation Service is $249 per battery system and an Electricity Bill Audit is $99 for up to four bills, all indicative. A care plan makes more sense when you want continuous monitoring and a yearly review rather than a snapshot.
Remote monitoring also needs your system online. If an inverter's data logger has failed, a Replacement Monitoring Gateway starts from $290, and homes without consumption monitoring can add a Solar Monitoring Kit from $390. Both prices are indicative and confirmed once we check your equipment.
Next steps
Note your inverter and battery models and make sure you can open your monitoring app, so we can confirm your equipment can be monitored under a plan. Learn more about how we support customers after installation on our about us page, then contact us to ask about a Care Plan, or request a quote if you are also considering a battery or EV charger.
Frequently asked questions
Will a care plan increase how much my system produces?
A care plan cannot make panels produce more than their design allows, but it can reduce lost production. Faults found in days rather than months mean fewer wasted sunny days, and on Premium, optimisation of battery and charger settings can help more of your solar go to good use. Results depend on your system, usage and tariff, so we report what we find rather than promising a set saving.
What happens when monitoring picks up a problem?
We contact you, explain what the data shows and recommend the next step. Some issues, such as a monitoring dropout or an incorrect battery setting, can often be resolved remotely where the system allows. Others need a technician on site to diagnose the fault. If a repair or warranty claim is required, we explain the options and any costs before work goes ahead.
Do I need a care plan if my system is still under warranty?
A warranty covers defective equipment, but it only helps once someone notices the fault. Without monitoring, an inverter or string can be down for weeks before a bill reveals it, and that lost production is not usually covered. A care plan focuses on finding problems early and documenting them, which also makes a warranty claim easier to support when one is needed.
