Blue Energy Solar Pty Ltd (ABN 29 161 878 860) (“Blue Energy Solar”, “we”, “us”) operates the websites blueenergysolar.com.au, energy-solar-panels.com, solar-energy-panels.org and solar-energy-off-grid.com. This policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect personal information through these websites and when you deal with us about solar panels, batteries, EV chargers and related services. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

The information we collect

Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:

  • Contact details: your name, email address, phone number and the address of the property.
  • Property and energy details: property type, whether you own or rent it, roof type, storeys and roof space, roof orientation and angle, power supply (single or three phase), your electricity usage and bill amounts, retailer, network and tariff, your NMI and meter number, your plans (such as an electric vehicle or a pool), the products you prefer, and when and how you would like to go ahead.
  • Business and strata details, if you give them: company or owners corporation name, ABN, strata plan number and number of lots.
  • Files you upload: your electricity bill (which usually shows your name, address, account and meter details, usage and charges) and photos of your roof.
  • Chat conversations: the messages you type into our website chat assistant and, if you ask us to follow up, the contact details you leave.
  • Customer information, if you go ahead with an installation: the details we need to design, install, connect, register and support your system, and to create the certificates and incentives that apply to it.
  • Technical information: your IP address (recorded with quote requests and chat sessions), your browser type and time zone, and standard web server logs.

We do not ask for sensitive information such as health information. Please don’t include it in messages or uploads.

Rates you share anonymously. If you type the rates from your bill into one of our calculators, those rates may be saved to improve our estimates. They are stored with the retailer, network, tariff type and postcode only — never with your name, email, address or IP address.

How we collect it

We collect personal information directly from you: through our quote forms, calculators and Quote Wizard, the chat assistant, email, phone calls and site visits. With your permission, or where the law allows, we may also get information about your connection or meter from your electricity distributor or retailer. We also look at aerial and satellite images of the property to check the roof.

Why we use it

  • To prepare estimates and quotes, and to contact you about your enquiry by phone, email or SMS.
  • To assess your property, and to design, supply and install your system.
  • To apply for grid connection and metering, and to create and claim small-scale technology certificates (STCs) and battery incentives for your system.
  • To register warranties with manufacturers, and to provide after-sales service and support.
  • To answer your questions through the chat assistant, and to review conversations so we can improve our answers.
  • To improve our websites, calculators and tariff data.
  • To meet our legal obligations, including consumer law, electrical safety and incentive scheme requirements.
  • To send you news and offers, but only if you have agreed. You can opt out at any time (see Marketing).

Automated estimates and the chat assistant

Our calculators and the Quote Wizard work out estimates automatically from what you enter. They don’t make decisions about you: a member of our team reviews every request before we give you a quote. The chat assistant is an automated AI system. It answers general questions and can pass your details to our team if you ask, but it can’t make decisions about you or your quote.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell personal information. We share it only as needed for the purposes above, with:

  • our staff, and the licensed electricians and accredited designers and installers who work on your job;
  • electricity distributors and retailers, for connection, export and metering approvals;
  • the Clean Energy Regulator and our certificate agents, for STCs and the federal battery program, and government agencies that run other programs you apply for;
  • product manufacturers and suppliers, for warranties and support;
  • finance providers, if you ask us about finance;
  • our IT service providers, including website hosting, email, content delivery and the provider of our AI chat assistant;
  • our professional advisers, and anyone we are required or authorised by law to share it with.

Information you send through any of our four websites comes to Blue Energy Solar.

Information sent overseas

Our chat assistant is powered by an AI model provided by Anthropic PBC in the United States. The messages you type into the chat are sent to Anthropic to generate replies. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic does not use these messages to train its models; it may keep them for a limited time for safety and misuse monitoring. Some of our other IT providers (such as email, cloud and content delivery services) may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. We take reasonable steps to make sure these providers handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Storage and security

Quote requests and chat conversations are stored in our website database and business systems, which only authorised people can access, and quote requests are emailed to our quotes team. If you leave your details in the chat, the conversation is also emailed to our sales team. The bills and roof photos you upload are not kept on our websites: they are attached to the email to our quotes team and kept with your request. Our websites use encrypted (HTTPS) connections. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the law requires.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry and quote information for as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry and follow it up. For customers, we keep records for as long as the law requires (for example, tax records, and records for warranties, electrical compliance and incentive schemes). When we no longer need information, we take reasonable steps to destroy it or remove anything that identifies you. You can ask us to delete an enquiry at any time.

Access and correction

You can ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by contacting us (details below). We will respond within 30 days. We won’t charge you for making a request. If we refuse, we will tell you why in writing.

Marketing

We will only send you marketing emails or SMS if you have agreed to receive them, and every message includes a way to unsubscribe. You can also ask us to stop at any time. Messages about your own enquiry, quote or installation are not marketing.

Cookies and similar technologies

  • Our websites use a session cookie that keeps your visit working (it expires after three days), and may store small technical settings such as your time zone.
  • The chat assistant uses your browser’s local storage to remember your chat and that you accepted the chat terms.
  • Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts and files from content delivery networks, which receive your IP address when your browser requests them.
  • We don’t currently use advertising or analytics cookies. If that changes, we will update this policy first.

You can clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser settings, but parts of the websites (such as the chat) may then not work.

Complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated.
